Windmillcup 2024: Sailing, Windmills, and Fun in Stavoren

Ole Reports

Last weekend, it was time once again for the Windmillcup, this time held in Stavoren. Euros was well represented with  five boats and more than 25 members! Of course, the association boats were present. The Witte Draeck with Rolf, Ruben, and Tiemen on board. The FF, crewed by Ewoud, Jop, and Jort (Loefbijter), and of course Jaffa with Niels, Sophie, Menno, Johanna, and Timon, also formed part of the fleet.

In addition to the familiar boats, Jurre's boat was also present, crewed by Annick, Hylke, Rixt, and Niek. There was also a rented Beneteau First 40, the Solstice, crewed by a team consisting of Jurre, Teun, Pieter, Ole, Yari, Annemarie, Thimo, Anouska, and Evelien.

The race day itself, Saturday, October 5th, started with a bit of wind, just enough to push everyone forward. Unfortunately, it was not enough to get all the boats to the finish line, but there was enough time to sail past the impressive windmills. Jaffa ultimately finished seventh in the small SW unmeasured class. The rest of the boats all sailed in the tour class, where Draeckje finished 44th and the FF 37th. The boat 'Out of the Blue' did not finish, while the Solstice finished in a respectable eighteenth place.

However, the Windmillcup is not just about sailing, but mostly about the fun. That was once again proven, as both in the pub and on the boats, the drinks kept flowing, and the laughter went on into the late hours. It was another weekend to remember! Until next year!
