Finally, the new website is now available!
You are currently reading this article from the new website, a product of the hard work of all webcie members and a few contributors. This new website is a long overdue item on the association's wishlist. This is why we are even more stoked to be able to finally show it to you all.
A bit over a year ago, the development of the software behind this website started. Back then, the website was supposed to have the following features:
- Being the association's billboard
- Agenda with enrollment system (SAIL)
- Issuance overview
- News articles en "press room"
- Photo hosting
- Internal section (GMM pieces enz.)
- Address book
It became clear quite quickly that the website needed to do a bit more. The association's administration was up to now administered in a separate system, that was synchronised with the website manually. The new website has now been set up in such a way that it can do the administrative tasks required to replace the separate system. This saves the secretary work. Additionally, the association's administration is accessible from anywhere with a web browser.
Additionally, a separate minisite was used during introduction periods. The website now integrates the functionality and the promotional aspect that the minisite had.
Everything discussed up to now is part of the most visible part of the digital presence of Euros, that which is usually referred to as 'the website'. But, this is only a small part of all that the webcie manages. The webcie is also responsible for the following digital services:
- Email (@euros.nl) with mailing lists
- Euros wiki
- GRIB-service
- Jaffa-wiki
- Other websites (/azoren, /weer)
Initially, to offload the mail-related infrastructure, we decided to migrate email services to GSuite, a Google product. This allows us to offload email, aliases and (committee) mailing lists. Additionally, our active members gain access to the rest of GSuite's products, that can be used for committee work. This has it's advantages for both the association in general and the committee members.
During all of this, the webcie started to set up a new web server, the one you are reading this article from right now. A clean slate, that allows us to set up our services in a robust and future-proof way.
The immediate future will be tumultuous, now that a lot of stuff changes in the digital realm. A lot will be improved, but in the process, sometimes things will break. Please take this into account. You can help us tremendously by telling us if you find things that are not in order. Please get in touch through webcie@euros.nl.
Rests me nothing than to wish you good winds, also on behalf of the rest of the Webcie,
~Verkleij
