It’s been a while since the boats have been flying, which means the maintenance season has been underway for some time now. Members and donors are enthusiastically working on maintaining and, where needed, repairing our beautiful fleet. If you’d like to help out, you can always sign up for the maintenance evenings or weekends via Sail
Jaffa
For the second year in a row, Jaffa is back in our shed, where it is being worked on under the leadership of Romke, who is the maintenance team leader this year. Over the past two months, Jaffa has been neatly cleared out, and all sailing-related equipment, such as sails, lines, and the engine, has been inspected to determine the necessary maintenance. Significant progress has already been made on the maintenance of the engine, carried out by various volunteers and an external company. In the coming period, work will also focus on repairing the keel damage so we can glide smoothly and beautifully through the water again.

FF
This maintenance season, the FF is one of the largest projects as the boat is getting a new color! The painting project is led by Jurre, the maintenance team leader, and Bram. Shortly after the boat arrived, the red paint was removed with a lot of dust, sweat and effort. Afterward, the boat was sanded and dents where filled to make the surface as smooth as possible. Meanwhile, a tent was constructed to ensure the paint on the FF is applied as cleanly and contamination-free as possible. Yesterday (January 14), the first layer of primer was applied, and by the end of the week, the boat will have its new color!

Witte Draeck
The Witte Draeck is in good shape this year. The boat was quickly cleared out and inspected for necessary maintenance. Rolf, the maintenance team leader, is currently busy renewing the washboards with aluminum profiles and other small tasks needed to get the Witte Draeck ready for fun sailing trips on the Frisian waters.

Dwarsligger
Unfortunately, we couldn’t get the Dwarsligger into the warmth of our shed this year, but we found a spot for her outside the shed. Here, Mark, the maintenance team leader, has made a good start on repairing the keel. Further work on the Dwarsligger is currently on hold due to the harsh conditions, which prevent filler from curing.

Sails
Every few years, it’s time to look into new sails for our beautiful fleet. This year, no fewer than five sails will be replaced. First, Jaffa will receive a new mainsail and genoa. Additionally, the FF will get a new mainsail, and the Witte Draeck will receive a new roller jib and a gennaker, which was overdue for replacement after more than ten years.
